1. Who we are
This master policy covers our public website (safecity.com.ng) and the mobile applications listed above.
Each app also has a short addendum with package ID and permission details.
2. Scope and roles
Depending on the product, we may process data as a controller (for example citizen Safe Naija accounts) or as a processor / technology provider for security companies, police commands and state agencies that operate their own tenants and user directories. Where an agency or company administers your account, that organisation may also be a controller of your operational data.
3. Data we collect
3.1 Account and identity
- Phone number (primary login), display name, and profile details you provide
- Organisation, estate, school, company or agency affiliation where applicable
- Authentication tokens and account status
3.2 Location
- Precise location when you use maps, check-in, or SOS features
- Background location while an SOS / distress session is active, or while a responder is on duty and available for dispatch (as configured by that app)
- Approximate network location for connectivity and fraud/abuse prevention
3.3 SOS and incident evidence
- Ambient audio, photos or video captured during SOS or field response
- Timestamps, device state, and related incident metadata
- SOS contacts / circles and people you choose to notify
3.4 Communications and cases
- Messages, status updates, assignments and case notes inside the platform
- Support emails and WhatsApp / phone enquiries you send to us
3.5 Device and diagnostics
- Push notification tokens, app version, device model, OS version
- Crash logs, performance metrics, and integrity signals (for example Play Integrity / App Check)
- IP address and basic server logs for security and reliability
3.6 Payments (if enabled)
- Subscription or billing references for paid plans; card details are handled by the payment provider, not stored by us as full card numbers
4. Why we use data (purposes)
- Emergency response — route distress alerts to nearby responders, police, state agencies and your SOS contacts
- Safety operations — dispatch, navigation, case management and evidence for authorised responders
- Account administration — create and secure accounts, enrol organisations, enforce roles
- Product reliability — notifications, background SOS reliability, crash fixing, abuse prevention
- Legal and compliance — respond to lawful requests, protect rights, and meet regulatory duties
- Communication — service notices and, where you opt in, product updates
5. Legal bases
We process personal data under applicable Nigerian law, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act / NDPR principles, on bases that include: performance of a contract (providing the service you signed up for), legitimate interests in securing the platform and coordinating emergency response, consent where required (for example certain optional permissions or marketing), and legal obligation where we must retain or disclose information.
6. Sharing
We share data only as needed to operate Safe Naija:
- Responders and agencies — private security, police, state commands and authorised partners who receive or handle your incident
- People you designate — SOS contacts and community / organisation admins you join
- Service providers — infrastructure and tooling listed below, under contractual safeguards
- Authorities — when required by law, court order, or to protect life and safety
We do not sell personal data.
Infrastructure processors
- Google Firebase / Google Cloud — Authentication, databases, messaging, storage, analytics, crash reporting, App Check
- Google Maps Platform — Maps display and location-related features during response
- Google Play Services / Play Integrity — Push notifications, device integrity checks, and app distribution
7. International transfers
Our cloud providers may process data in data centres outside Nigeria. Where transfers occur, we rely on appropriate safeguards offered by those providers and contractual protections.
8. Retention
- Account data — kept while the account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards for security, billing and disputes
- SOS / incident evidence — retained as needed for response, investigation, agency policy and legal holds; agencies may set longer retention for operational records
- Logs and diagnostics — typically shorter operational windows unless needed for security investigations
You may request deletion as described on our account deletion page. Some records cannot be fully erased where law or ongoing investigations require retention.
9. Security
We use industry-standard controls including encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS), access controls by role, authentication, and Google/Firebase security features. No system is perfectly secure; please protect your device and login.
10. Children
Safe Naija is not directed at children under 13 as a self-serve consumer product. School, family or institutional deployments that involve minors must be configured by a responsible adult or institution, and used in line with applicable child-protection and data-protection rules.
11. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account / certain data
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based
Contact info@safecity.com.ng. Agency-managed accounts may also need to go through your organisation’s administrator.
12. Permissions on Android
The apps request sensitive permissions only to deliver safety features (location, camera, microphone, phone, notifications, foreground services, and related capabilities). You can revoke permissions in Android settings, but core SOS / dispatch features may stop working correctly without them. See each app’s privacy addendum for package-specific detail.
13. Website
Our website may use essential cookies or local storage for theme preference and basic functionality. Enquiry forms collect the details you submit so we can respond.
14. Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Material changes may also be notified in-app or by email where appropriate.
